  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, cubed Fresh mozzarella recommended for milky richness.
  • 1 cup black olives, sliced
  • 1 cup salami, diced Choose a good-quality deli salami.
  • 1/2 cup cherry tomatoes, halved Add for freshness and color.
  • 1/4 cup red onion, diced Adds crunch and flavor.
  • 1/4 cup Italian dressing Store-bought or homemade for convenience.
  • Salt and pepper to taste Season according to preference.
  • Fresh basil for garnish (optional) Use for added aroma and flavor.

Preparation

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil and cook 8 ounces of penne or rotini according to package directions until al dente.
  • Drain the pasta and rinse briefly under cold water to stop cooking.
  • In a large mixing bowl, add the cooled pasta with all other ingredients and toss gently.
  • Drizzle with Italian dressing and toss until even.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste, adjusting as necessary.
  • Garnish with fresh basil if desired and refrigerate for 30 minutes if time allows to let flavors meld.
  • Serve cold or at cool room temperature.

Notes

Make ahead for up to 24 hours. Avoid adding watery ingredients until just before serving. Can be customized with a variety of ingredients.
