Base ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure it’s at room temperature for best results.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour Substitute with gluten-free flour for a gluten-free version.
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Mix-ins

  • 1 cup chopped pecans Can be substituted or omitted for a nut-free version.
  • 1 cup chocolate chips Dark chocolate chips can be used for a richer flavor.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, making sure each one is well incorporated before adding the next. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the creamed butter and sugar mixture, stirring until just combined.
  • Gently fold in the chopped pecans and chocolate chips until evenly distributed.

Baking

  • Use rounded tablespoons to drop the cookie dough onto ungreased cookie sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  • Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature. Cookie dough can be frozen for longer preservation. Avoid overmixing to keep the texture light and soft.
