Ingredients

For the Roast

  • 1 piece prime rib roast (about 5-7 pounds)
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • Garlic powder to taste
  • Onion powder to taste
  • Herbs (such as rosemary or thyme) to taste
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).
  • Season the prime rib generously with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and herbs.
  • Rub olive oil on the roast to help the seasoning stick.

Roasting

  • Place the prime rib on a rack in a roasting pan, bone side down.
  • Roast for 20 minutes at 450°F to develop a crust.
  • Lower the oven temperature to 325°F (163°C) and continue roasting until the internal temperature reaches your desired doneness (medium-rare is about 135°F or 57°C).

Resting and Serving

  • Let the prime rib rest for at least 20 minutes before carving to allow the juices to redistribute.
  • Serve and enjoy with your favorite sides.

Notes

For serving, pair with sides like mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or a fresh salad. For added flavor, consider a sauce or gravy. Leftover prime rib can be stored in aluminum foil or an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days or frozen for up to 6 months.
