Ingredients
  

  • 5 pounds Apples any variety; mix for best flavor
  • 1 to 2 cups Sugar granulated or brown, adjust to taste
  • 2 teaspoons Ground Cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons Lemon Juice to keep apple butter bright
  • 1 tablespoon Vanilla Extract optional, enhances flavor

Instructions
 

  • Peel and core the apples, cut them up into nice chunks.
  • Dump apples into your slow cooker and add sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice.
  • Stir until everything is coated.
  • Put the lid on and set to low for 10 hours, or high for 6 hours.
  • Occasionally, stir the mixture.
  • Once it’s dark and gooey, use a stick blender to get it smooth.
  • Taste and adjust sugar or spices if necessary, adding vanilla if desired.
  • Let it cool, then spoon it into jars for later use.

Notes

Feel free to mix different varieties of apples for depth of flavor. Use any leftover apple butter in various dishes like grilled cheese or pancakes.
