Ingredients

Blue Layer

  • 1 box blue jell-o (3oz box, any flavor) Traditional berry flavors work best for a patriotic theme.
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup cold water

White Layer

  • 2 packets unflavored gelatin Essential for stabilizing the creamy layer.
  • ½ cup cold water
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk (14oz/395g) Can substitute with a light version to decrease sugar content.

Red Layer

  • 1 box red jell-o (3oz box, any flavor)
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup cold water

Toppings

  • as needed whipped cream
  • as needed red, white and blue sprinkles Add just before serving for best visual appeal.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Place your small cups on a large baking sheet or tray. Set aside.

Make the Blue Layer

  • In a bowl, dissolve the blue Jello in 1 cup of boiling water, stirring until fully dissolved.
  • Add 1 cup of cold water and mix well. Pour the mixture into each cup, filling them a little more than halfway.
  • Place in the fridge for at least 30 minutes or until set.

Prepare the White Layer

  • In a separate bowl, sprinkle unflavored gelatin over ½ cup of cold water; let it sit for 5 minutes.
  • Boil 1 cup of water and stir in the gelatin mixture until dissolved.
  • Add sweetened condensed milk and mix well. Allow this layer to cool slightly before pouring over the set blue layer, filling each cup almost to the top.
  • Refrigerate for another 30 minutes to set.

Create the Red Layer

  • Repeat the same process for the red Jello. Mix the red Jello in 1 cup of boiling water, then add 1 cup of cold water.
  • Once the white layer is set, pour the red layer gently over the white layer, filling the cups to the brim.
  • Return to the fridge for at least 1 hour.

Garnish and Serve

  • Top each Jello cup with a dollop of whipped cream and sprinkle with red, white, and blue sprinkles before serving.

Notes

Ensure each layer is completely set before adding the next to avoid blending colors. Use chilled liquids for the cold water additions to help the layers set faster. Store any leftover Jello cups in the refrigerator for up to 3 days in an airtight container.
