Ingredients
  

For the cookie dough

  • 1.5 cups unsalted butter (room temperature) Make sure your butter is at room temperature for easier mixing.
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp almond extract
  • 3.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 tsp salt

For coloring and toppings

  • Purple gel food coloring
  • Black gel food coloring
  • Purple sprinkles
  • 0.5 cups black or chocolate sprinkles

Preparation

  • Beat the butter and sugar together until the mixture is light and fluffy.
  • Add the eggs and milk, and mix until the mixture is smooth.
  • Next, add the flour, salt, vanilla, and almond extract, and mix to form a dough.
  • Divide the dough in half: tint one half purple, then divide the rest into black and white portions.
  • Roll the black dough into a rectangle that measures 6x12 inches.
  • Roll the white dough to the same size and place it directly on top of the black dough, then roll lightly to adhere.
  • Roll the purple dough to the same size, top it with purple sprinkles, and then roll everything into a log.

Notes

These cookies are best served fresh but can also be enjoyed later. They make great gifts too; just pack them in a cute cookie box or jar. To keep your Magical Spiral Cookies fresh, store them in an airtight container at room temperature for about a week, or freeze them wrapped in plastic wrap.
