  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • red food coloring (optional) For festive touch.

Preparation

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  • In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla extract until creamy.
  • Add the egg to the mixture and blend well.
  • Gradually incorporate the flour mixture, stirring until just combined.
  • If desired, divide the dough in half and add red food coloring to one portion for a festive touch.
  • Roll both sections of dough into logs and wrap them in plastic wrap. Chill in the fridge for at least 1 hour.

Baking

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Once chilled, slice the logs into heart shapes and arrange them on a baking sheet, leaving some space between each cookie.
  • If you'd like, sprinkle some fun toppings on top.
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are golden.
  • Allow them to cool on a wire rack before serving.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for about a week. For longer storage, freeze baked cookies in a freezer-safe bag for up to three months. Separate layers with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
