Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 loaf French bread Thickly sliced
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup milk Can substitute with almond milk
  • 1 cup sugar For soaking
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup sugar For caramelizing

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Cut the French bread into thick slices and arrange them in a greased baking dish.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until fully blended.
  • Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread slices, ensuring they are well-coated.
  • Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour; overnight yields even better results.

Baking

  • Bake the French toast in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.
  • Once baked, sprinkle the top with 1/4 cup of sugar. Using a kitchen torch, caramelize the sugar until it forms a crispy layer.
  • Serve warm and enjoy your decadent brunch!

Notes

For best results, serve with fresh fruits like strawberries or blueberries, and consider drizzling with maple syrup or adding whipped cream. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat in the oven.
