Main Ingredients

  • 12 cups popped popcorn Make sure they are freshly popped.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter For greasing hands.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup M&Ms Or any favorite candy.
  • 1/2 cup caramel bits
  • to taste Mini chocolate Christmas trees Optional.

Preparation

  • In a large pot, combine sugar, corn syrup, butter, and salt over medium heat. Stir until the mixture comes to a boil, then let it boil for 4-5 minutes without stirring. Remove from heat and add vanilla extract.
  • In a large bowl, place the popped popcorn. Pour the sugar mixture over the popcorn and stir quickly to coat all the popcorn evenly.
  • Allow the mixture to cool slightly, then add in M&Ms, caramel bits, and mini chocolate trees if using.
  • Grease your hands with butter and shape the mixture into balls (about the size of a golf ball).
  • Let the popcorn balls cool completely before serving or storing.

Notes

To store Christmas Popcorn Balls, place them in an airtight container. They can be kept at room temperature for about a week. If you want them to last longer, keep them in the fridge for up to two weeks.
