  • 1 sleeve saltine crackers About 40 crackers
  • 1 cup unsalted butter 2 sticks
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips You can substitute with dark or white chocolate
  • ½ cup chopped pecans Or other nuts, optional
  • Sprinkles or festive toppings Optional

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper, then lightly coat it with nonstick spray.
  • Arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer to coat the entire baking sheet.
  • In a medium saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar over medium heat. Once melted, bring it to a boil and cook for about 3 minutes, stirring constantly until it thickens slightly.
  • Pour the caramel mixture evenly over the crackers, using a spatula to spread it out.
  • Bake for 5 minutes, or until the caramel mixture is bubbling.
  • Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot caramel. Let sit for 2-3 minutes to soften.
  • After softening, spread the chocolate into an even layer. Top with chopped pecans and any other decorations while the chocolate is still warm.
  • Allow to cool completely, then refrigerate for 1-2 hours until set. When firm, break into pieces and serve.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week, refrigerate for longer freshness, or freeze wrapped tightly.
