Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 6 cups Chex Cereal Feel free to substitute with rice cereal for a gluten-free option.
  • 1 cup Caramel Homemade caramel adds depth, but candy melts work in a pinch.
  • 1 teaspoon Apple Pie Spice Essential for infusing cozy fall flavors.
  • 1 pinch Salt Balances the sweetness beautifully.
  • 1 cup Apple Chips/Frozen Dried Apples Avoid fresh apples to keep moisture at bay.
  • 1 cup Powdered Sugar Crucial for achieving the Puppy Chow appearance.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a medium microwave-safe bowl, melt the caramel in 30-second intervals, stirring in between until smooth.
  • Add the apple pie spice and a pinch of salt, mixing until fully incorporated.
  • In a large bowl, combine the Chex cereal and apple chips.
  • Pour the melted caramel mixture over the cereal and gently fold until all pieces are evenly coated.
  • Transfer the mixture to a large resealable bag filled with powdered sugar. Shake until all pieces are covered in white sweetness.
  • Spread the coated cereal on a baking sheet to cool before serving.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for about a week. For freezing, use a freezer-safe bag, ensuring to remove as much air as possible before sealing. The recipe is gluten-free if rice cereal is used instead of regular Chex.
