  • 6 cups Rice Chex cereal Base of the recipe
  • 1 cup white chocolate chips Can substitute with dark chocolate for a richer flavor
  • 1/2 cup caramel bits
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup dried apple chips, chopped Adds a fruity twist

Coating

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon Adds spice
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Preparation

  • Place 6 cups of Rice Chex cereal in a large mixing bowl. Set it aside.
  • In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the white chocolate chips, caramel bits, and heavy cream. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each until melted and smooth.
  • Pour the melted caramel and chocolate mixture over the Rice Chex cereal. Gently stir to ensure all the cereal is coated evenly.
  • Toss in the chopped dried apple chips and stir to combine.
  • In a large zip-top bag, mix together powdered sugar, ground cinnamon, and salt. Add the coated cereal mixture, seal the bag, and shake until well coated.
  • Spread the Puppy Chow onto a baking sheet to cool and set before serving.

Notes

To store, keep in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. It can also be frozen for longer storage. Stirring thoroughly while melting ensures even consistency. Consider adding mix-ins like mini marshmallows or nuts.
