  • 9 cups rice cereal
  • 1 cup caramel bits Use fresh for best results.
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon apple pie spice Can swap for pumpkin spice for a twist.
  • 1 cup powdered sugar Mix swiftly to avoid clumping.

Optional Toppings

  • 1 cup candy corn or apple-shaped candies
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts Optional; can be omitted for a nut-free version.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, measure out 9 cups of rice cereal and set it aside.
  • In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the caramel bits with the butter. Microwave for 30 seconds, then stir. Repeat until the mixture is completely melted and smooth.
  • Stir 1/2 teaspoon of apple pie spice into the melted caramel.
  • Pour the caramel mixture over the rice cereal, mixing gently until every piece is evenly coated.

Coating

  • Transfer the coated cereal into a large resealable bag or a bowl.
  • Add 1 cup of powdered sugar, then shake or stir until the cereal is fully coated.
  • Fold in the candy corn and optional chopped nuts if using.

Cooling

  • Spread your delicious mixture onto a baking sheet to cool before serving.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week, or freeze it for up to three months. Let it cool completely before sealing.
