  • 9 cups Chex cereal
  • 1 cup caramel sauce Store-bought or homemade
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine Your choice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup chopped dried apples
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts Optional
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon Optional

Preparation

  • Measure out 9 cups of Chex cereal in a large bowl and set it aside.
  • In a saucepan, melt 1/2 cup of butter over medium heat.
  • Stir in 1 cup of caramel sauce and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until well combined and smooth.
  • Pour the caramel mixture over the Chex cereal. Gently stir to coat every piece evenly.
  • Transfer the coated cereal to a large zip-top bag. Add 1 1/2 cups of powdered sugar, seal the bag, and shake well to coat evenly.
  • Toss in 1 cup of chopped dried apples (and nuts, if using) and mix well.
  • Spread the mixture onto a baking sheet to cool down.
  • Once cooled, break into pieces and it’s ready to serve. Store any leftovers in an airtight container.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature or freeze for longer shelf life. If it gets sticky, let it sit at room temperature until it hardens again.
