Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 8-inch pans.
Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time and add vanilla.
Mix dry ingredients in a separate bowl. Add to wet mixture alternately with milk. Divide into pans.
Bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely.
Make frosting: beat butter, powdered sugar, cream, and vanilla until fluffy.
Layer and frost cake with buttercream. Smooth the outside.
Pipe Lambeth-style ruffles around edges with a star tip.
Decorate with small bows and sprinkles. Remove ribbons before serving.
Notes
Use pastel-colored bows for Sweet 16, or bold red/black for 18th and 19th birthdays.
