Ingredients
  

Cake Layers

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 3/4 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

Buttercream Frosting

  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 3-4 tbsp heavy cream
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

Decoration

  • 6 red ribbons small bows, food-safe
  • 1/4 cup edible pearls or heart sprinkles

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 8-inch pans.
  • Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time and add vanilla.
  • Mix dry ingredients in a separate bowl. Add to wet mixture alternately with milk. Divide into pans.
  • Bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely.
  • Make frosting: beat butter, powdered sugar, cream, and vanilla until fluffy.
  • Layer and frost cake with buttercream. Smooth the outside.
  • Pipe Lambeth-style ruffles around edges with a star tip.
  • Decorate with small bows and sprinkles. Remove ribbons before serving.

Notes

Use pastel-colored bows for Sweet 16, or bold red/black for 18th and 19th birthdays.
