- 6 apples
- ½ tsp grated nutmeg (or as needed)
- ½ tsp cinnamon (or as needed)
- 2 Tbsp brown sugar
- 1 Tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 Tbsp white sugar
- Juice of half a lemon
- 1 cup all-purpose flour (self-raising flour can be substituted)
- 1 cup porridge oats
- 125 g butter (melted or cold softened)
- 1 cup light brown sugar (or as needed)
- ¼ tsp salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (375°F) and prepare a baking dish.
- Peel, core, and chop the apples. Transfer them into the baking pan.
- Add flour, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mix everything to combine.
- Add half the juice from the lemon and stir to combine again.
- In another bowl, mix oats, flour, brown sugar, cold butter, and a pinch of salt. Rub with your fingers until you get a breadcrumb-like texture.
- Sprinkle the crumble topping over the apple mixture in the baking dish.
- Bake in the oven for 35 to 40 minutes until the topping is crispy and golden and the apple filling is bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and let it stand for a few minutes. Serve with vanilla ice cream or custard.
Notes
For the best flavor, use a mix of sweet and tart apples. You can substitute apples with pears or berries for variation.
