Description

A warm and comforting dessert made with fresh apples and a crunchy topping, perfect for family gatherings or cozy nights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 apples
  • ½ tsp grated nutmeg (or as needed)
  • ½ tsp cinnamon (or as needed)
  • 2 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 Tbsp white sugar
  • Juice of half a lemon
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (self-raising flour can be substituted)
  • 1 cup porridge oats
  • 125 g butter (melted or cold softened)
  • 1 cup light brown sugar (or as needed)
  • ¼ tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (375°F) and prepare a baking dish.
  2. Peel, core, and chop the apples. Transfer them into the baking pan.
  3. Add flour, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mix everything to combine.
  4. Add half the juice from the lemon and stir to combine again.
  5. In another bowl, mix oats, flour, brown sugar, cold butter, and a pinch of salt. Rub with your fingers until you get a breadcrumb-like texture.
  6. Sprinkle the crumble topping over the apple mixture in the baking dish.
  7. Bake in the oven for 35 to 40 minutes until the topping is crispy and golden and the apple filling is bubbly.
  8. Remove from the oven and let it stand for a few minutes. Serve with vanilla ice cream or custard.

Notes

For the best flavor, use a mix of sweet and tart apples. You can substitute apples with pears or berries for variation.
